Cosplay selection, we all do it, we all get frustrated with it, it can be a tricky thing. Considering the many factors (time, money, character) in choosing a cosplay it can either be a simple choice or a complicated one.
Many times I’ve switched what my next cosplay would be from my list of cosplays (yes I have a list, we all do). Often I end up choosing a character that wasn’t on my list. Keeping it super long.
Here are a few cosplay choosing tips I found to share with you.
- Passion. Cosplay is certainly an area where this applies. Your passion for a character is key to becoming that character. Seeing how most decisions are based on emotion (read Medic Daily’s “5 Surprising Ways We Make Decisions” for more information) your emotion leads to a choice.
- Intuition. Your first cosplay choice, the one that comes from your gut is the best one for you. If you spend too much time trying to decide on who you’d like to cosplay you might find your certainty level going down. A study performed by Dr. Roozbeh Kiani, assistant professor of NYU’s Center for Neural Science and his colleagues found that if there’s no change in the information presented when making a decision your certainty level goes down.
- Patience. I know I’m contradicting myself a bit, but sometimes patience goes a long way. If you’re patient you might feel who you want to cosplay and this will help you instinctually know. If you struggle with this and would like help in relaxing, this post about aromatherapy might be of some use.
Once you know who you’re cosplaying as it’s easy to go from there. You’ll find a way whether it’s closet cosplay or starting up that sewing machine, you’ll be happier when you’re wearing your cosplay. For more advice, Rochelle Williams has great advice for cosplayers here.
